Bank of England Museum – March 2024

By | March 29, 2024

In March 2024, the Explore London 1 group visited the Bank of England Museum. The job of the Bank of England is to make sure we can pay for things easily and securely in the UK. It produces banknotes (cash) and oversees many of the other payment systems we use (e.g. with a debit or credit card). It also works to keep the cost of living stable. One way the Bank does this is by changing the main interest rate in the UK. It also regulates UK banks and other financial firms so we know they are safe to use.

The museum traces the history of our money and the changes in the way we use it and anticipates future development.
