u3a Amblers walk by the Thames

By | July 7, 2024

On the 1st June, the group met in the Windsor Leisure Centre car park by the arches and after a Thames-side walk along Baths Island, we took the tunnel under the relief road, turning right into Clewer Court Road, then ascending the ramp to cross the Queen Elizabeth Bridge over the Thames. Descending the ramp down the other side, we looped under the bridge, taking in the 2012 mural by Cosmo Sarson.

We then proceeded along the Thames path passing under the wrought iron ‘bow and string’ bridge carrying the GWR over the Thames. Further along, the path opens out to cross the Brocas, a meadow owned by Eton College with good views of the Castle and sometimes, passing swans on the river.

This was followed by a coffee stop at Costa in Eton, from where we crossed the Windsor Bridge and took our group shots. Down the steps to the ‘towpath’ and admire the swans and further along, the goslings, before returning to the car park.
