Addendum to Newsletter Spring 2025
Chess for Beginners
We are exploring the possibility of forming a Chess group for beginners.
If you would like to learn to play chess or improve your strategies, please contact newsletters@windsoru3a.org.uk
Cycling 2
A new member would like to start a second Cycling group because our existing group is full. She is happy to do any admin. associated with a new group, but would need help with route planning, as she is new to the area. If you are interested, please contact newsletters@windsoru3a.org.uk
Jazz in Datchet
On Tuesday, 24th June, in Datchet Village Hall at 2pm, we have booked another great band – The Forest Hill Owls, please contact newsletters@windsoru3a.org.uk
Lawn Bowls
The Lawn Bowls group meets for 18 weeks over the summer and was launched with the help of a local Lawn Bowling club which welcomes the group to its clubhouse and green once a week during the Bowls season.
Last year, the group’s members were all new to Lawn Bowls but progressed from a simple game devised by the sport’s governing body (Big Bowls Bash) to bowls proper, with the active help of the club captain and members.
This year there will be two sessions, each of 9 weeks – the first session starts on Friday May 2nd and the second session on 4th July until Friday August 29th. The sessions are held at Windsor Great Park Bowling Club; a wonderful venue for the summer months!
If you wish to join the group this year, please email the group convenor, David Treder at treasurer@windsoru3a.org.uk as soon as possible to secure your place. There are just 20 places available in each of the 9-week sessions and because there has been a lot of interest in joining the group, the places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. David will send you details on how to pay once your place is confirmed. Once all 20 places are filled, you will be added to a waiting list.
The price is £25.00 per session of 9 weeks and will be payable to Windsor and District u3a. There is no discount if you only plan to attend some of the sessions and once paid, the charge is non-refundable. Coffee/tea is £1.00 per week in cash at the venue and payable directly to the hosts, Mary Sibley or Kate Rayner.
For more information on the club, follow the link above and if you have any questions, please get in touch with David.
Play Reading
This group has recently celebrated its first birthday. It meets on the third Wednesday of each month and welcomes new members. The clue is in the name – we read plays of all types and have fun tackling different parts and talking about the play. Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 16th April at 11am, in a very friendly venue; The Hope, Alma Road, Windsor, where we have the use of a pleasant room with coffee on tap!
If you are interested, please get in touch with Anne Farley.
Logged in members can see contact details.
Watercolour Card Making
We are keeping the vision of Peter Honey’s watercolour card making group alive! We meet on the second Tuesday of the month from 2pm – 4pm at Castleview. We gather ideas from photographs, Pinterest, other artists and each other! We share our efforts with each other and offer encouragement! We have experimented with playing relaxing music while we paint. The beauty of making cards is that they are easy to carry around and can be given to friends. Who doesn’t love to receive a handmade card? We bring our own materials to the sessions and would welcome new members.
Please contact Michelle Gregory.
