On Thursday 8th August, a group of u3a Amblers met in Old Windsor Memorial Hall car park to start our amble, we proceeded up Church Road until we reached our host Jo Wattis at St. Peter’s and St. Andrew’s church.
We entered through the bell tower door, so we had to look up!
Proceeding into the Nave and looking back and up, shows the small archway that used to lead to a gallery above the font. Behind which in the photo is one of the oldest stained glass windows, most having sadly been destroyed in a fire.
Further into the hall, we can appreciate the timber roof, pews, cushions and some of the more modern stained glass windows. The arch floral decoration from a recent wedding.
If this has piqued your interest and you’d like to see inside for yourself, the church is ‘Open Door’ on Tuesday afternoons between 1 and 3 pm, for the remainder of September only.
There are also (year-round) Coffee Mornings, held on the first and third Saturday‘s of the month, commencing 10-30am.

Moving up to the quire, chancel and alter, via the rood screen, we find the choir stalls, organ. Outside, Eileen grabbed a photo of Jo on the nineteenth century ‘new’ porch, with her reference manual to answer our questions. The group are very grateful to Jo for her time and patience explaining the history of the building and the ancient ‘road’ that passed through or just around the site in much earlier times, plus answering many questions.
We made our way to the Thames path, then followed it for almost 2 km, below we show a few views of houses and boats seen on our way to the Bells of Ouzeley. Just over half the group took refreshment there, the others walked, or took the bus, back to the Toby Carvery, so they were near their cars before taking refreshment. The total distance covered was 4 km, or 2.5 miles.
I hope you enjoyed the photos above, taken by Eileen Harris and the author.
