On Thursday 6th June, a group of u3a Amblers met outside Maidenhead Sainsbury’s (Hines Meadow) car park to start our amble, we spiralled around the Adobe building to use the underpass to reach Kidwells Park, as seen in the lead photo above.
The next photo is of the statue at the western end of the pedestrian High Street. The plaque below which states this is known simply as “The Maidenhead Boy”, and was created in 1986 by Lydia Karpinska. It was erected in 1995 and restored in 2005.
We then walked the length of the High Street, passing “The Bear”, turning right where the road passes over “The Cut”, taking the new riverside path, passing the Library, to which we’ll return later, plus various other items of note along this route.
After about 2/3 of a mile, we reach the point where “The Strand” joins just before the weir, with ducklings and fish ladder. We looped round via Green Lane, then paused for the group shots.
We then walked up Forlease, York and St. Ives Roads, passing the Town Hall and the ‘animated’ fountains opposite it. We continued to the Library, where we sat outside taking refreshment while viewing ‘the rock’ fountain, before taking a closer look at it and the adjacent amphitheatre, before dispersing.
Please enjoy the photos above, taken by Eileen Harris and the author.
